Top MTG Playmats of September 2026

Top MTG Playmats of September 2026 - Nerd Gear Gaming Inc.

September's leaderboard has a familiar face at the top. The cardboard box playmat that took over August did it again, and it's still sold in two finishes, one rough and one crisp. We pulled the real sales number, so here's what our customers actually ordered the most in September 2026.

1. Cardboard (Ripped and Crisp)

Crisp Cardboard with Label MTG playmat

For the second month running, the number one spot goes to a playmat that looks like a cardboard box. It's a land flood meme you can sit behind, and it keeps landing with people who would rather lean into the joke than hide it. Ripped Cardboard goes for a rough, worn look, while Crisp Cardboard with Label (pictured above) is the cleaner, less worn take.

2. My Town

My Town TCG playmat, art by Jesse Jacobellis

Jesse Jacobellis' My Town takes the classic kids' road-map play rug and gives it a fantasy makeover: winding roads, green hills, a stone castle, a wizard's tower, a sea serpent and a red dragon. It's packed with small details, the kind of mat people lean in to study between turns. It holds the number two spot for the second month in a row. Take a look at the full print on My Town tcg playmat.

3. Crimson Scream

Crimson Scream MTG playmat

Crimson Scream is vampire-driven horror art for the table that runs a bloodline. If your commander is Edgar Markov, Olivia or Sorin, this mat practically reads as a theme. See the Crimson Scream product page.

4. Mr. Dom Tattoo

Mr. Dom Tattoo TCG playmat

Mr. Dom Tattoo is a bold, edgy tattoo-art design that grew out of our collaboration with Dom during the Playmat Sanctuary Kickstarter. It's proof that a top seller doesn't have to be a fantasy scene. Get a closer look at Mr. Dom Tattoo.

5. The Dark Lord

The Dark Lord MTG playmat

The Dark Lord is unofficial fan art of a classic fantasy villain: spiked armor, fiery eyes and a glow against lava and shadow. It suits any table with a villain deck, which is every table. (Unofficial fan art, not affiliated with or endorsed by the source material's rights holders.) Check out The Dark Lord mtg playmat.

6. Great Escape

Great Escape TCG playmat, art by Jesse Jacobellis

Great Escape, also by Jesse Jacobellis, is a retro handheld console parody taken full maximalist: neon colors, a doodle border and a screen crowded with hidden monsters. Dragons, a cyclops, a giant spider, a demon skull. It's an eye-spy for game night. See the Great Escape product page.

7. Toad Rider

Toad Rider MTG playmat, art by Clint Cearley

Illustrated by Clint Cearley, Toad Rider is painterly storybook fantasy: a squirrel knight riding a toad into battle, axe and shield ready. Cute but deadly. It was on August's list too, so it clearly has staying power. Check out Toad Rider playmat.

8. Pixel Swamp

Pixel Swamp TCG playmat

Pixel Swamp closes out the list with a black-and-white, 8-bit take on a haunted bayou. If you want moody without a lot of color, this is the one. See the Pixel Swamp product page.

Want to browse past these eight?

The full playmat collection has plenty more where these came from. And if one mat turns into several, the Playmat Sanctuary holds up to 12 standard playmats in clear slots, so you're not digging through a pile before game night.
